Summary

This grant opportunity supports nonprofit organizations, academic institutions, and occasionally individuals or for-profit entities engaged in charitable endeavors. The foundation's primary focus is on funding discrete, time-limited projects rather than general operating support. Eligible applicants are those whose proposed initiatives align with the foundation's strategic priorities and philanthropic vision.

The grant application process is structured in two stages. The first stage requires the submission of an Online Funding Inquiry (OFI), which serves as an initial expression of interest. If the OFI is deemed promising, selected applicants will be invited to submit a detailed Full Proposal. This two-step process ensures that only projects with significant potential for impact are considered for funding.

While the foundation does not typically provide funding for general operating expenses, it may consider requests for such support under specific circumstances. For instance, if a project leader seeks renewal or follow-up funding for a previously supported initiative, the foundation may require that more than 50% of the project's funding come from sources other than the foundation itself. This approach encourages financial sustainability and broadens the project's support base.

The foundation's grantmaking areas encompass a wide range of disciplines, including but not limited to character virtue development, individual freedom and free markets, life sciences, mathematical and physical sciences, public engagement, and the intersection of religion, science, and society. Applicants are encouraged to propose innovative and interdisciplinary projects that challenge conventional assumptions and contribute to meaningful discourse in these fields.

To initiate the application process, interested parties must complete the Online Funding Inquiry through the foundation's portal, adhering to the guidelines and timelines specified in the grant calendar. Detailed instructions and support are available to assist applicants in navigating the application process effectively.
